ACEG Transmission Time Webinar: A Deep Dive Into Interregional Transmission Planning
September 9 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Interregional transmission planning is essential for connecting diverse energy resources across regions, ensuring grid stability, and reducing customer costs. The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) is conducting an Interregional Transfer Capability Study (ITCS) study to be filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) this December, and FERC is expected to act on interregional transmission sometime this fall. Americans for a Clean Energy Grid’s forthcoming interregional transmission principles lay out that FERC’s interregional transmission planning rule should include (1) a minimum transfer requirement, (2) cost allocation, and (3) the incorporation of interregional, independently developed transmission lines in interregional planning efforts.
During this webinar, NERC presented key data from their forthcoming ITCS study. Then, panelists discussed how increased interregional transmission can help enhance grid reliability, what actions should be taken at the state and federal level, and what lies ahead for interregional transmission planning.
Featured speakers included:
- Stacey Burbure – American Electric Power
- John Moura – North American Electric Reliability Corporation
- Nicole Luckey – Invenergy
- Joe DeLosa – The Brattle Group
- Christina Hayes (moderator) – Americans for a Clean Energy Grid
