Transmission, Clean Energy, and Resilience: A Conversation with Grid Owners and Planners in SPP

On Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 2:00pm EST, Americans for a Clean Energy Grid (ACEG) hosted “Transmission Time” for a discussion with top executives of the grid operator and owner in a region that was ground zero for the recent cold snap and also for the highest renewable energy penetration in the country. Peggy Simmons, President and Chief Operating Officer for the Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO), and Lanny Nickell, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the Southwest Power Pool (SPP), discussed how their region operates with up to 70 percent renewable energy penetration at times, how the utility and SPP plan their systems for clean energy and reliability and resilience, and the role of large scale transmission.
