New Study Presents a Plan for a Low Cost and Clean Grid: A Discussion of the Seams Study with Transmission Leaders

October 9, 2019 @ 4:00 am

The Interconnections Seam Study (“Seams Study”) is a remarkable analysis that points the way toward the ultimate integration of the U.S. power grid, which will provide consumers with access to lower-cost, more reliable, and cleaner electricity. On Tuesday, October 9 at 1 p.m. ET/10 PT, Americans for a Clean Energy Grid (ACEG) discussed the implications of this study. Rob Gramlich, ACEG Board Member and President of Grid Strategies LLC, moderated the discussion and Jay Caspary, co-chair of the study’s Technical Review Committee and Director of Research & Development at Southwest Power Pool presented key findings from the study. Michael Goggin, member of the Technical Review Committee and Vice President of Grid Strategies, and Jesse Jenkins, a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School, weighed in with their commentary on why expanding the grid is critical for consumer savings, electricity sector decarbonization, and increased reliability. You can watch the webinar below and download a PDF copy of the slides here. Additionally, you can learn more about the study on the NREL website and the ACEG website.
