Wednesday, July 26 (Washington, D.C.) — ACEG Executive Director Christina Hayes issued the following statement on today’s hearings before both the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, focused on opportunities to reform the permitting of energy infrastructure, and the Senate Budget Committee, focused on the fiscal consequences of climate change on infrastructure.
“It’s clear that senators from both parties understand the urgent need to expand our electric grid, and we appreciate today’s in-depth conversations before both committees on the value of an expanded and modernized transmission system. Now it’s time to take action. We know what’s needed to improve how transmission is planned, permitted, and paid for in the U.S. ACEG is laser-focused on making sure that Congress passes meaningful, bipartisan reform this year. This country deserves a 21st century grid to power our homes and businesses, to connect new renewable resources, to improve electric reliability, and to reduce our dependence on foreign energy.”
