Washington, D.C. (September 21, 2022) — Christina Hayes, Executive Director of Americans for a Clean Energy Grid (ACEG), a diverse coalition of business, labor, consumer, utility, transmission and generation developers, environmental, and other groups that support effective transmission development, issued the following statement today after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) introduced new legislation regarding permitting reform:
“Americans for a Clean Energy Grid appreciates the effort to improve the process to site, permit, and invest in large scale regional and interregional transmission. We believe these reforms will significantly improve deployment of transmission, which will make the grid more reliable, cut consumer electricity bills, and reduce carbon emissions and other air pollution by hundreds of millions of tons annually. It improves our permitting process while preserving the National Environmental Policy Act and ensuring public participation opportunities as part of federal reviews.”
