Wednesday, January 4 (Washington, D.C.) — ACEG congratulates Willie Phillips on his appointment to lead the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
“His strong background in reliability and considering the needs of customers — and recognizing the role of transmission in supporting electric service throughout the country — will serve the Commission well,” said ACEG Executive Director Christina Hayes.
Acting Chair Willie Phillips has been an active and thoughtful participant in the Joint Federal/State Task Force on Transmission and has shown a broad knowledge of transmission issues. We appreciate his past comments recognizing the “clear need” for expanded transmission to accommodate new generation and promote reliability.
We expect 2023 to be another busy year for transmission policy, as FERC prepares to issue final rules on transmission planning and cost allocation. FERC also recently initiated a proceeding on interregional transmission and a rulemaking to implement legislation on backstop siting. ACEG looks forward to working closely with Acting Chair Phillips and the entire Commission to maintain support for effective transmission policy.
