Americans for a Clean Energy Grid Supports DOE Efforts to Modernize Nation’s Transmission System; Ensure More Competitive Electricity Markets
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Americans for a Clean Energy Grid (ACEG) Senior Adviser Bill White released the following statement today prior to a House Natural Resources Committee hearing on Secretary Chu’s memorandum to the Power Marketing Administrations on their role in building a more secure and sustainable electricity sector:
“Across the board, our electricity infrastructure is aging and requires strategic repair or replacement. A more robust, reliable, and efficient electric transmission system will save businesses and consumers billions and is the only way to fully develop America’s unmatched wind, solar and other clean energy resources. The need to modernize our nation’s electrical grid in the country’s four Power Marketing Administrations (PMAs) is no exception. Americans for a Clean Energy Grid (ACEG) supports the Department of Energy’s (DOE) initiative to modernize our grid and remove barriers to developing the vast domestic resources in these regions.
“By modernizing the grid – both in the 20 states falling under the jurisdiction of the PMAs and across the country – we can incorporate advanced technologies that allow for the utilization of a more diverse energy mix, giving consumers more choices while also reducing the cost of electricity for everyone.
“The PMAs have always led the way in the evolution of our nation’s grid. ACEG looks forward to their continued participation in this process and hope they continue to lead the way in developing a stronger, cleaner, more secure grid for the nation.”
