WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 7, 2020) — Americans for a Clean Energy Grid (ACEG) celebrates American workers and organized labor today and looks forward to working with our friends and colleagues towards a clean energy future supported by expanded and improved grid infrastructure.
Rob Gramlich, Executive Director of ACEG, said: “On this Labor Day we celebrate all the workers and their labor unions who helped build and maintain the backbone of modern society: the electricity transmission grid. Line workers, electricians, surveyors, equipment operators and other skilled laborers constructed towers, hung conductors, and have maintained, protected, and restored equipment. Unions such as the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Utility Workers Union of America, Laborers’ International Union of North America, United Steelworkers along with the Blue-Green Alliance are helping to train workers and develop safety standards and public policies to support and protect this growing American workforce. Building a US Macro Grid will employ a half million people directly and another million people in indirect and induced jobs. We look forward to working with these unions to develop the needed workforce and policies that support well-paying and safe American jobs.”
