Wednesday, September 10 (Washington, D.C.) — Yesterday, Americans for a Clean Energy Grid (ACEG) filed a protest at FERC in response to the complaint lodged by five state commissioners (hailing from ND, MT, AR, MS, LA) against the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) and its approval of the Tranche 2.1 transmission projects.
The 24-project portfolio, approved by MISO’s board in December, includes a 3,631-mile, 765-kV backbone designed to improve reliability, bring on new generation, and reduce congestion. The projects are slated to come online between 2032 and 2034. MISO has said the portfolio delivers $38.3 billion in benefits over 20 years. The complaint seeks to unravel years of regional planning based on a 15-year-old tariff approved by FERC and ignores millions of dollars in benefits for customers throughout the Midwest, despite their states being responsible for less than 1% of the costs.
