Wednesday, February 14, 2024 (Washington, D.C.) — Today, Rep. Greg Caesar (D-TX) introduced the Connect the Grid Act, which would connect ERCOT with its neighbors. ACEG Executive Director Christina Hayes released the following statement:
“The benefits of interregional transmission were never clearer than during Winter Storm Uri in 2021, when Texas suffered outages due to the state’s inability to import power; more than 4.5 million people lost power in freezing temperatures. Neighboring regions were able to keep the lights – and the heat – on through use of their interregional transmission lines.
Even in less extreme circumstances, improved interregional ties drive down costs and shore up the reliability of our electric systems. By connecting ERCOT with its neighbors, Rep. Casar’s proposal will help secure these benefits for Texas. We applaud the Congressman’s ambition and thoughtfulness in putting this legislation together and appreciate his dedication to addressing interregional transmission issues for Texans and all Americans. We look forward to working with him on these issues going forward.”
