The Gulf Coast Electricity Transmission Summit is Coming Soon

In partnership with Tulane University, Americans for a Clean Energy Grid is holding the Gulf Coast Electricity Transmission Summit in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 16, 2014. The summit will focus on issues of high-voltage transmission, with panels on topics such as modernizing and integrating the Gulf Coast’s grid, whether clean energy is also affordable energy, and electric reliability and disaster resiliency now almost a decade after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. The conference will feature numerous experts with wealth of knowledge and variety of opinion and expertise. We are lucky to have four keynote speakers:

• Stacy Head is the current President of the New Orleans City Council. She became President in 2012, and was re-elected in 2014. Stacy sits on the Council’s Utility, Cable, Telecommunications and Technology Committee. Initially, Head was elected as the District B councilmember in 2006 and made issues such as transparency and public safety her top priorities.
• Eric Skrmetta is the District 1 Commissioner for the Louisiana Public Service Commission. Eric was elected in 2008 and is up for re-election this year. He also holds a seat on the Louisiana Republican State Central Committee and is a Master of Laws graduate from Tulane University.
• Daniel Adamson is General Counsel to the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources committee, which is chaired by Senator Mary Landrieu. Adamson has previously served on the House Committee on Natural Resources, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
• Curt Hébert was the former Chair of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and is currently a co-chair of the Bipartisan Policy Center Grid Modernization Task Force as well as Partner at Brunini, Grantham, Grower & Hewes, PPLC. As the chairman of the FERC, he helped to restructure the natural gas pipeline and electric utility industries. He also served as chairman of the Mississippi Public Service Commission and was formerly Executive Vice President at Entergy.

All told, the speakers are sure to bring excellent dialogue on the future of transmission in the Gulf Coast Region.
