Tuesday, March 25 (Washington, DC) – Today, the House Energy & Commerce Committee held a hearing titled “Keeping the Lights On: Examining the State of Regional Grid Reliability,” with grid operators from across the country testifying about reliability challenges.
Americans for a Clean Energy Grid Executive Director Christina Hayes issued the following statement:
“We applaud the House Energy & Commerce Committee for examining the reliability of our nation’s electric grid in today’s hearing. The testimony from the nation’s seven major grid operators underscores a critical reality: we cannot maintain reliability without addressing transmission constraints that prevent new resources from connecting to the grid. As many of the witnesses and members of Congress highlighted today, we must improve how transmission infrastructure is sited and permitted in order to enhance resilience against extreme weather and enable efficient integration of diverse, cost-efficient generation resources. We urge the Committee to prioritize policies that accelerate transmission development and look forward to working with them to move forward the American energy dominance agenda.”
