Tuesday, April 30 (Washington, D.C.) — Today, the Biden Administration finalized a rule to simplify and modernize the federal environmental review process under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The rule will speed up the buildout of transmission infrastructure, including by introducing tools like categorical exclusions and programmatic reviews to accelerate project evaluation. ACEG Executive Director Christina Hayes issued the following statement:
“ACEG supports all efforts to improve the federal environmental review process and accelerate the development of much-needed transmission infrastructure, including today’s anticipated announcement from the Biden Administration. With increased electricity demand, more frequent extreme weather events, and a changing resource mix, it’s crucial that the development process for new transmission projects is both efficient and responsible. We look forward to continuing to work with the Administration on policies that will increase the resilience and reliability of our nation’s grid.”
